Big Monkey has a friend - Kind of

My boss gave Harper a stuffed Curious George & a Curious George book for Christmas. I brought it home last night and let her open it. She took the book right in and put it on her book shelf and put George on her bed. When I put her to bed, Big Monkey came up and I said something about George being Big Monkey's friend. Harper said NO - big Monkey is MY friend. Oh how we love Big Monkey!

Big Monkey Returns

Big Monkey has returned to the Johnson household for Christmas. He came back sometime while Harper was napping yesterday afternoon. Matt was home with her and was taking her to her speech apt and Big Monkey came along. Appartently Big Monkey caused some problems at speech and had to wait outside until Harper was done.

On Sunday Matt fixed the upstairs toilet and the put the 'old' chain in the bathroom trash can. Last night Matt and I were standing in the kitchen and Harper walks into the kitchen holding that chain. Matt asked her where she had gotten that chain in an irritated voice... Harper, knowing that she was 'kind' of in trouble from digging in the trash says, "It's a magical chain, it just jumped out of the trash into my hand."

Wizard of Oz

Last night we sat down and watched the Wizard of OZ. We explained to Harper that Wizard of Oz was one of Grandma Jeri's favorite movies. She sat through the whole thing, but had many questions of what was going on during the movie. At this very moments she and Matt and upstairs watching it again. We had been talking about the lollypop kids and how funny we thought they were... That part came and she sat and watched without a word... and then said "I want to go in there and lick them".

Baking cookies with mommy!

On Monday I have organized a cookie exchange with all of the people in my office. Each of us are to bring in 3 dozen cookies. So today Harper and I decided that today would be a great day to bake cookies - since it was so darn cold out! The recipe was so easy - 1 box of devils food cake, 2 eggs, 1/2 butter (melted) 1/2 cup quick oats and 1 cup chocolate chips. Mix all together and back 12 minutes at 350. As you can see, she even helped with the clean up!

Been busy at our house!

The last few weeks have been busy at our house. Trying to finish up all of the Christmas shopping, get gifts together for all of Harper's teachers (pre-school, speech & dance - 7 in all), get the office decorated and trying to plan the 1st Annual Cookie Exchange. Below are a few recent pictures - the first is the Tree that Westminster Preschool decorated the Festival of Trees. Harper, Jayne and I went and looked at all of the trees decorated in the church. There were many theme trees decorated by different agencies in and around Lincoln. My favorite was MADD DADS tree that had tires and chains and the a very little bike on the top! My boss gave Harper and Nativity project. She and I sat at the table for probably an hour and put it together. Matt wasn't helping us - so it isn't very perfect and lined up all nice and neat... Those of you who know Matt understand! The next 2 as of Harper and her Gingerbread House. She made it when we went to our annual afternoon of Desserts at the Hughes. Thank you so much for having us over - It's great to see you all. Harper just loves the girls.

Christmas is coming!

Since it has gotten colder, Harper likes to go outside and see her breathe. This morning on the way to preschool she got very excited and said "mommy, I can see that trucks breathe". If you haven't figured it out, she was talking about the exhaust of the truck in front of us.

Living Veteran Award

On November 11, 2008 (VETERANS DAY) Harper and I headed to Albion for the Veteran's Day Program. They were honoring "Albion Grandpa" with the Living Veteran Award at the annual Veteran's Day Program at Boone Central where I graduated in 1988. Jim, Jacob, Scott & Marlene, Miechelle, Madison, Caleb, Abby, Harper and I all were able to go. "Albion Grandpa" had no idea that he was receiving the award or that we were all coming. Below is what was read aloud about "Albion Grandpa"

Today's honoree was born in Albion on November 10, 1927. He graduated from Albion High School in May 1947. Active in sports, he played football, basketball and was a commencement speaker. While in high school, he began working for the Albion News as a printer, where he remained for 27 years.

Harper's Humor Chapter 3 page 1

There is a new saying on our house..... Apparently either Matt or I must have said "What in the world?" at one time or another. The other day Harper was playing (with dad) Mario Cart Wii. She crasher or something and looks at Matt and says "What in the name of the world" It was so funny - She said it at the correct time & with the correct enunciation. (did I spell that right?)

Our 1st Parent Teachers Conference

On Tuesday Matt and I went to our very first Parent Teachers Conference Westminister Preschool. The only problem was..... those damn little chairs we had to sit on. Just imagine Matt & I sitting on those chairs! Anyhow - Harper is doing great! They said she really enjoys playing with their dress up cloths, the kitchen & house area. They said she is a good friend and once in a while she needs encouragement to share. During group time her attention to the teacher is getting much better - she loves to talk but is learning when it is her time to talk and when it is the teachers time to talk. All in all it was a good conference - which I figured it would be!

Harper's Humor Chapter 2 page 1

Yesterday - on the way from Preschool to DD's - BIG MONKEY came back into our lives. For those of you who do not know who Big Monkey is - he is Harper's imaginary friend who comes and goes. At times he/she is purple with a red hat and other times he/she is huge, then small. Just really depends. We have not heard about Big Monkey for some time, but he/she is BACK.

Harper just started talking about Big Monkey and how 'she' has a boyfriend who was is a 'he' and 'he' had a girlfriend ????? For the life of me I cannot remember the name that she gave Big Monkey - Just remembered it was James Bond??? She then went on to tell me that Big Monkey lives in the East with the Easter Bunny. I'm sure there will more Big Monkey stories and I'll keep you posted.

Harper rides a combine!

Saturday after dance class, Matt took Harper so Les's ( a guy that Matt works with) farm so she could ride the combine. He was in the process of getting the corn out of the fields and had invited us to come and go for a ride. I wasn't feeling well so Matt and Harper headed out for a day of fun. They got to ride on the combine and even helped unload all of corn at the local elevator. She loved it and even brought home a couple of ears of corn that she and Matt used when they built a squirrel feeder.

Halloween

After Matt got off of work on Halloween, he brought Harper into my office to do a little Trick-or-Treating. She was a hit and had a great time also came home with a sack full of goodies. After I got home from work we went around our neighborhood, then headed to DD's and off to Grandpa's. Finally we headed to Uncle Mitch & Aunt Brandy's house where Matt and Mitch took her around their neighborhood. Harper was then able to play with Brandy and all of Brandy's snow globes. They take each one off of the shelf, play with them, look at them and then put them back. Harper just loves them and Brandy is so good with her. THEN is was time to play some Guitar Hero. I had never played or even knew how it really worked. Mitch showed Matt and they played a couple of songs and Harper even got in on the action as you can see my the pictures below! It was just to funny - Harper really got into it and loved it!

Halloween 2008

Last week we went over to John & Vickie's back yard and took some pictures. I needed to get some Halloween cards out in the mail. We had a good time until the very end. Once we got back home and I asked for one more pictures - she sat on the step and said... Mommy, I'd done! I'm sure that I will have more pictures when we go to Boo at the Zoo...

Harper's Humor Chapter 1 page 4

Tuesday night the 3 of us were sitting on the couch watching and Nebraska vs. Texas volleyball game. Harper was asking questions about what they were doing and why. She then asked who is in the white - we replied the Huskers. Then she asked who the other girls were. I said that they were the players from Texas. Harper then says - Oh you mean they are from Texas like "Sandy Checks". For those of you who watch Sponge Bob you get it! For those of you who do not watch Sponge Bob, Sandy Checks in a squirrel that lives in a bubble in Bikini Bottom on the Sponge Bob cartoon.

This one is something that Harper has said before in a little different way - and it came up again today. Harper and I were on our way to Preschool this morning... There was a lot of traffic heading south on 27th with us. I can see that she is looking around at the other cars, 'thinking'. She says: "Mommy, why are all these people going to my Preschool? There won't be enough toys for us to play with."

Our trip to Roca Berry Farms Pumpkin Patch

Yesterday afternoon we went to the Pumpkin Patch at Roca and had a great time. We got there at a good time as is wasn't all that crowded. They have all sorts of kid friendly things to do. They had a huge sand box, all sorts of little buildings kids can go in and out off, tails, trikes kids can ride on trails, bouncing things with a huge slide (which she loved). The String Beans also played and she loved to get up front with all the other kids and dance. She also won one of the dance contest. The String Beans are a singing group of 3 guys that play kids music. We brought home 3 pumpkins ( a daddy, mommy and Harper size ) What a fun day!

Harper has been going to dance class in Waverly every Saturday morning for the last month. There is a gas station on 84th and Cornhusker that flies has a HUGE flag. When the Husker's play at home they have a HUGH Husker flag they fly. We talk about the American Flag and the Husker when we drive by and I have tried to explain each to her. The Husker's played at Iowa yesterday so the American flag was flying. As we drove by Harper says - 'Mommy, I know the the American flag means" I was surprised and 'thought' she remember what we had talked about, she then says "it means there is no Husker home game today."

Harper's Humor Chapter 1 page 1

I'm going to try something a little new. As some of you may know - I have many pages of the funny things that Matt had said while talking in his sleep. (let me know and I'll let you read them sometime) I am goign to start keeping track of the funny things that Harper says/does in this blog and title it Harper's Humor.

Chapter 1-----October 2008

This morning on the way to Preschool I needed to stop at Walgreens. Harper asked why we were stopping at Walgreens and I told her that it was Boss's Day and I needed to get a card for my boss. She ask who my boss was and I told her that it was the Kathy that I work with - she then ask me if Kathy makes me go to TimeOut like DD does at daycare........... We often joke around the house and ask Harper "who's the boss" and 9 out of 10 times she says DD!

Just checking in..

The last couple of weeks have been about the same.... Harper goes to Speech Therapy on Monday afternoons, Preschool on Tuesday & Thursday mornings and dance class on Saturday morning. Last week she had her 6 month check at the dentist. The apt went well and she did great. No cavities and they said she is brushing well.... I usually doing the brushing and then the next time she does it and so on. That seems to keep her happy. The Halloween costume is all ready to go - she is going to be a Ladybug this year. I plan on having pictures posted in the next week or so. We are going to go to the neighbor's back yard and take some pictures. We are also planning on going to Roca Berry Farms this weekend. She had such a great time at the Dairy Farm that I want to take her to as much stuff like that as we can. Grandpa, Cousin Craig, Aunt Carrie, Uncle Jan & Aunt Jayne and of course Baby Holden stopped by the other night. Everyone had a good visit and Harper and Holder played and really enjoyed themselves. I had a meeting last night and didn't get home until after 7:00. The house was all dark when I drove up and I wondered what was going on.... Matt and Harper will sitting on the couch 'relaxing' with all of the lights out. The had a pretty busy night. It had been raining most of the day and Harper played in it when they got home. She wore her new raincoat from Aunt Carrie, had an umbrella and mittens... and then decided to stomp in the puddles.... I'm not sure how long it will take to dry out her shoes....

Albion Grandma & Grandpa came for a visit

A couple of weeks ago Mom & Dad or Albion Grandma & Grandpa came down for the weekend. Matt, Mitch & Steve were in MN fishing so it was just the four of us here at home. We didn't do a whole lot, but had a nice time catching up.

Where did September go???

I can't believe that the month of September is gone already. I didn't even post one single blog the whole month. And it's not like I was THAT busy. Work has been pretty busy and I have on the computer a lot - so I when I come home the last thing I want to do is be on the computer... every time I come down here Harper is right there ready to play on her FisherPrice website. So we usually end up doing that anyhow.

She is still enjoying Pre-School and has recently started taking Dance. We are going to the Anderson-Hoxie Studio in Waverly. She has a Creative Movement class every Saturday from 10:00 - 10:30.
She LOVES it. Last week she was up at about 7:00 and already asking when we can leave to go to her dance class. There are 5 little girls in the class and Harper (as usaul) is the outgoing one who does most of the talking, which means she is usually the one the teacher needs to ask to be quiet!
I will do a better job of keeping you up to date on what is happening and also keeping pictures posted.

Visit to the State Fair

Harper made her first trip to the State Fair. The 3 of us and Uncle Mitch and Aunt Brandy went last Sunday. We went pretty early - before 10 - so we got good parking and it wasn't really all that busy. Harper had a good time and really enjoyed spending time with Mitch & Brandy. Brandy even went on the roller coaster with her. We all enjoy the typical fair food of corn dogs, fried twinkies & funnel cakes. But the time we got home that afternoon we were all tired. Harper and I took a nap and Matt headed to Walmart to look at some fishing stuff for his upcoming MN fishing trip with Mitch and Steve.

Preschool has started!

Our little Harper started Preschool on Thursday August 21st at the Westminister Church. She is in the Tuesday/Thursday morning class and preschool is from 9:00 - 11:30. I am able to take to the "before-care" at 7:30 and head to work. The BC is in the downstair classroom, so when it's time for school all they have to do it walk the kids upstairs. So far - she just LOVES it! The first day there were No Tears (from either of us). I took her there at 7:30 and she walked right in and started talking to her teacher and headed off to play. I had to ask her for a hug & kiss and then I was off. When I came back to get her at 11:30 (to take her back to DD's for the rest of the day) - she really didn't want to leave.

Fishing with Dad

Harper first FISH

Matt took Harper fishing on Friday and she had a blast! She was able to catch 2 small Bluegills. Matt bated the hook and casted but Harper actually reeled the fish in. When they were done she was so excited that she wanted to come to see me at work and show me the pictures. I asked her today what she wanted to do tomorrow and she said - Go fishing with my mom and dad. So looks like I will have to go this trip.

Had a great time at Chester

Jayne brought Harper back from Chester Monday afternoon. It was the longest time that she had been away from home and was a little clingy when she got back. But of course when she was there she did not miss us at all. She played with Purple Abby ( the kitten that lives under Chester Grandma porch ) a lot. Purple Abby is now a tame kitten not a wide kitten - as Harper is always reminding us. Aunt Jolene also pulled in a few favors and Harper got to ride on a horse and buggy. Luke and Lucy were the horses names. Over the last week about every day of so she says something about being in Chester and the things she did. Matt and I are go glad that she is able to go and spend time in Chester like Matt did when he was growing up.

When Harper was in Chester, Matt and I took the opportunity to take a grown-up weekend. We went to Omaha Saturday afternoon and spend the night at the Embassy Suites in the Old Market. We just relaxed and walked around the Old Marker and did a lot of people watching.

Friday, August 08, 2008

Off to Chester again!

Matt and I have been planning on going to Omaha to spend the night on Saturday. We mad made plans for Harper was going to go to Aunt Jayne's and spend the night. However, Jayne is still in Chester, so Matt & Harper are goign to meet Jayne in Beatrice this afternnon and she is going to go back to Chester with Jayne until Monday. I'm sure when she returns there will be many stories to tell! I miss her already - But also looking forward to a Grown-up weekend with Matt!

Harper's KC trip

Harper had a great time in KC with Aunt Stephanie. Sara Rose & Kelsea were able to come to KC for a short time. Sunday evening they all went to Worlds of Fun and Harper had a great time. It has been over a week since she has been back and she still brings things up about the trip. We are so glad that she is able to go to KC to stay with Stephanie.

A few new things she has said lately - - The other night I had asked her to go get me something in the other room. She looks at me for a moment and then says "Ok my daddy's wife" and heads off to the other room to get it. Not sure where that came from? This morning we were on our way to DD's (Harper's daycare) we were looking at cars and talking about them and she says "Why are these people going to DD's mommy?". Out of the mouth of babes!

How the weekend flew by......

Matt's Grandma (or Chester Grandma) as Harper would put it had her hip replaced on Thursday afternoon. She is doing great and I believe she got to go home yesterday. Since Aunt Judy was in town we thought it would be nice to have everyone over to grill and hang out on Friday night. Aunt Judy & Aunt Jayne, Mitch & Brandy, Steve & Deb came over. We had a really nice time and Harper loved it as she had yet another PARTY.

Saturday afternoon we had a birthday party to go to for one of the neighbor girls. We didn't stay to long, but Harper did get to jump in one of those big blowup jumper things. We took off and headed to Eagle to go to Eagle Raceway for Family Appreciation Night. They were giving away over 300 bikes so there were of course lots of people there. Harper didn't win a bike but she got some bubbles and a flag and that was good enough for her. Although the friends that we went with won a bike for one of their boys. Harper loved the races and thought it was very loud. Matt was thinking when he remembered to bring ear plugs for her.

We got up early Sunday morning so Matt & Mitch could drive Harper to Kansas City. Harper is going to stay with Aunt Stephanie for a few days. We talked to them last night and they had just left Worlds of Fun & had a blast! She loved the Bumper Cars. I'm sure I will have many stories to share when she gets back!

Went to Albion for the weekend

On Saturday the 19th Matt and Steve drove to Marshall MN to move Mitch & Brandy back to Lincoln! (We are so excited to have them back in town). So Harper and I decided to go back to Albion for the weekend. We didn't' do much on Saturday - Just hung out with "Albion Grandma & Grandpa" as Harper would say. The Boone County Fair had started on Saturday and the parade was on Sunday. Brady, Miechelle, Madison, Caleb & Abby came from Columbus & Ed, Sheena, Trinton & Tripp came from Bartlett to watch and parade. We ordered pizza from Casey's and then headed to Rolf's to find our spot in the grass and wait for the parade to start. Even though it was HOT all the kids had a blast and got lots of candy. After the parade was over we went back to Grandma & Grandpa's for ice cream and cookies. Harper and I headed back to Lincoln about 4 so we could go pick up Dad at Mitch & Brandy's new place. There were all moved in or at least all of the moving was done - now 'they' have all of the unpacking to do. Did I mentioned how excited we are to have them back in town.

Picking the Onions!

Today Harper and Daddy finally got the pick Harper's onions. It is one of her daily chores to water the onions. They put up the table and started to pick them and put them into 2 piles. The little ones and The big ones. I'm really not sure what Matt is going to do with the onions once they are all picked and cleaned. But I'm sure he will think of something.

Back from Chester

Harper stayed in Chester until Thursday - she and Jayne got back to town about 7:30. She had a great time and all sorts of stories to tell. One of the days she got to sit on the Chester Firetruck. They were having their monthly meeting and they let her come over look at the firetruck. She also visited Great-Grandpa and saw the birds. When they were there the fire alarm went off. Harper said that it was VERY loud and it hurt her ears, nose and toes. She also named one of Aunt Jo's 'wild' kitties Abby Purple. She also swam in Aunt Jo's pool. I'm sure over the next couple of days we will hear more and more about the trip to Chester. She already told me that she is going back when Aunt Jayne will drive her there.

Tuesday, July 08, 2008

Harper is in Chester

We do not have daycare this week - DD is on vacation! Matt took off Monday and Aunt Jayne was going to come and watch Harper on Tuesday and Wednesday. Well it worked out that Aunt Jolene and Brianna were in town on Monday afternoon and wanted to take Harper back to Chester for a few days - this way Aunt Jayne wouldn't have to come back to Lincoln to watch her.

Harper was SOOOO excited to go the 'the farm' and see the forest (Aunt Jo's tree line) the kitties and ever thing else......as soon as Aunt Jolene and Brianna got to our house - she was down the driveway ready to get in the car and GO! She should be back sometime on Wednesday and I'm sure I'll have many stories to post

Sprinkler Time!

Sprinkler Time!

Even though Harper was up late last night - she still have the energy to run & ride through the sprinkler. After we (Harper and Mommy) took a long nap - and Daddy headed to Omaha to go to Bass Pro Shop - she finally got to play in the sprinkler. It's suppose to be hot again tomorrow so we are thinking of setting up her pool so after her nap she can swim and start to get ready for the Kansas City trip to go stay with Aunt Stephanie - as they will probably head to Oceans of Fun!

THE 4TH OF JULY

We had a fun 4th of July this year. We decided to stay at home and have family over. Steve and Deb, Mitch and Brandy and Stephanie and Darin were all able to come. We grilled field mice and chicken wings. Harper had a great time with Uncle Mitch and Daddy lighting things off - which lasted most of the day and well into the evening. As you can see by the picture above - Daddy actually let her light some things off herself - which I'm not so sure that I approve off... But she was learning from the best and she will learn to be careful! Once the firework display at Oak Lake started we went over to our neighbors back yard to watch. By that time Harper was pretty tired and wasn't all that interested - so she played on their swing set. All in all it was a really good day!

Logging deck time

We love to spend time on our deck. Just hangout, blowing bubbles or eating supper. Albion Grandma & Grandpa gave this Harper sized bench to Harper for Chrismas and she loves to sit on it. Looking at her it is hard to believe that she is only 3.5 years old.

Dairy Fun Day

Today we went to Dairy Fun Day at Prairieland Dairy near Firth. Harper got her face painted and played in a corn box - which she loved. We also rode a trolley (or tractor as Harper puts it) around the dairy farm. They told us all about how the farm works. They have over 1400 milking cow and each one is milked 3 times a day. They produce about 6 gallons of milk each. They served lunch there but the line was way to long so we headed to Hickman for lunch and FIREWORKS! It's hard to believe that the 4th of July is less then a week away.

Getting ready for the 4th

The 4th of July is only a few weeks away and Matt and Harper are already getting ready. She loves to go out the driveway and 'light' things off. Matt got her some kid friends sparklers (or at least as kid friendly as they can get) and she loves them. Cousin Craig was over last week and they started lighting thing off. They of course had to add in the ever so popular smoke bomb -which Harper wasn't so sure of at first but got the hang of it.
